Appalachian Regional Airport, Varney, WV
The Appalachian Regional Airport was constructed from a reclaimed surface mine site to replace the Mingo County Airport located in Williamson, WV. The initial design phase for the development of the new airport included a 5,000-foot long runway, designated Runway 8-26. Subsequent projects included:
- A partial parallel taxiway, main parking apron, complete airfield lighting system and a secure perimeter fence.
- Construction of a 10-unit T-Hangar and access taxilanes.
- Installation of a fuel farm with a 10,000-gallon Jet-A fuel tank and a 6,000-gallon Avgas fuel tank with all dispenser hardware and accessories, including self-service terminal and credit card readers. The project also consisted of the installation of the electrical supply system which included a rotary phase convertor to provide 3-phase electrical service for the Jet-A fuel tank.
