Designed for the Colorado Air National Guard (ANG), this certified LEED® Silver project expanded and completely renovated the existing Weapons Release Facility into a modern area for the base's F-16 weapons systems maintenance program. The revamped facility, totaling 16,200 SF, provides spaces for administration, training, maintenance, overhaul, repair and refitting of fighter aircraft weapons release and gun systems.
The fast-track design project included several sustainable design features such as a geothermal-based HVAC system (the first at Buckley AFB), day-lighting of office and shop spaces, low-flush and low-flow bathroom fixtures, waterless landscaping, room occupancy sensors for lighting control, energy recovery of heated air in the shop spaces, and reuse of existing structural components.
Exterior features include pervious pavements for parking areas, AT/FP measures, new utility system connections and metering, and a gazebo. The utility systems are monitored using smart meters and a mass communications system is used to transmit fire alarms and emergency communications to the base's central system. The kitchenette was also expanded into an interior break area with energy-efficient appliances and fixtures.
