Kentucky ARNG Paducah Joint Forces Reserve Center and Field Maintenance Shop, Paducah, KY
As part of the design-build team, GRW provided engineering design services for this complex, which meets the LEED Silver sustainable design rating, is located in Paducah. The 66,035 SF reserve center and 13,917 SF maintenance shop serves units from the Kentucky Army National Guard (ARNG) and the U.S. Army Reserves.
Facility components include:
- Private offices and administrative common spaces
- Classrooms, distance learning area and weapons simulator
- Assembly hall with fully functional kitchen
- Six vehicle work bays
- Heated and unheated storage areas
- Flammable material storage and controlled waste facilities
- Building operating and support spaces
- Site lighting which meets the Dark Skies Initiatives
- Occupancy sensor controlled interior lights
- T5 low mercury, high-efficiency fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts throughout for 12.5% energy reduction over ASHRAE 90.1 baseline figures
- Energy management and control system, intrusion detection system, mass notification system
- Site AT/FP measures
Two months after substantial completion, FEMA and the state government used the complex during a major ice storm as a command post and emergency shelter to house hundreds of local residents forced from their homes due to weather conditions and massive power outages that lasted weeks.
This project received two awards from the Design-Build Institute of America, Ohio Valley Chapter: First Place Award for Public Sector Projects over $15 Million and a Design-Build Excellence Award.
