The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) selected GRW to provide stormwater supplemental project implementation, master planning and program management services to assist with a long-term strategy to manage stormwater flooding. Lexington, consolidated with Fayette County, is the second-largest city in Kentucky.
A part of the project involved the implementation of the Supplementary Environmental Project (SEP) resulting from a Consent Decree which requires LFUCG to resolve issues with its stormwater and sanitary sewer systems. GRW developed a project prioritization system that is used by LFUCG staff to objectively select the highest priority projects for design and construction. The prioritization system allows new projects to be incorporated into and ranked with existing projects. Our work has also involved several engineering studies, including xpSWMM hydraulic models, to evaluate and recommend solutions to reoccurring flooding problems.
To improve on the findings and usability of the SEP, GRW also developed a stormwater master planning work plan which provides field level engineering standard operating procedures for consistent data collection, data management, and data storage used to develop watershed based master plans. The program management tasks focus on the review and approval of work performed by the field level engineering firms.
