GRW’s relationship with Adena Springs began in 1989 when Frank Stronach developed the farm at three separate sites near Versailles, Kentucky.  GRW designed a significant number of new buildings at Adena Spring’s Woodford County farm (now owned by Stonestreet) including broodmare, weanling, yearling, training and isolation barns.

For Adena Spring’s current Kentucky site, a 2,045-acre farm in Paris, GRW provided design services for a 14-stall stallion barn with an attached main office, seven 28-stall broodmare barns, and an employee village with more than 20 homes and a recreational complex.

Barns at this location include longer windows for improved ventilation, and rubberized stall walls and floors for easy disinfection. Each broodmare barn is equipped for foaling so mares do not have to be moved to a new barn before foaling.

To reduce injuries, the paddock configuration was also changed to allow three differently-sized pasture options. Mares and foals start in a small paddock, move to a 10-acre field, and eventually graduate into a field of 40 to 50 acres.
