Construction began in early 2016 on the City of Elkins’ $37 million water system improvements project. The project includes construction of a new 4,000 gpm membrane water treatment plant, a new 3.0 MG precast post-tensioned concrete clearwell (shown in photo), a new raw water intake, approx. 5,500 LF of 24” raw water main, and over 20,000 LF of new water lines to replace existing 90 year old mains throughout the system. The new state of the art treatment plant replaces the City’s existing water plant, which was constructed in 1921, and is being constructed on the mountain top overlooking the City, adjacent to the new clearwell. Construction is projected to be complete in late 2017.
