In early October, the City of Lewisburg, WV; Governor Jim Justice, Greenbrier County officials, and representatives from Chapman Technical Group kicked off a much-needed water system improvements project with a groundbreaking ceremony.
More than half of the funding for the more than $63-million project comes in from a $39.8 million USDA Rural Development loan, which is noted as the largest ever awarded in West Virginia.
For the past several years, the City’s existing water treatment plant has operated nearly 24 hours a day and endured many problems related to the aging water system. The project will increase the plant capacity, shorten operations to 8 hrs a day initially, and provide additional storage capacity to the system.
